Tintype workshop

Many thanks to Light Art Space in Silver City, New Mexico for hosting my Introduction to tintype photography workshop.  Six people joined me to learn about and work with the traditional Wet Plate collodion methods used to make tintypes and ambrotypes.

We were able to work in comfort using my custom built tintype trailer – a large portable darkroom on wheels. We covered a wide range of content including the science, safety and large format camera operation. Then we went on to hands on practice of the art of pouring plates and setting up the shoot. Students left that day with their own varnished tintype plates.
