Freedom of Choice

Making a handmade photograph is a unique and personal experience that involves a variety of creative choices and techniques. As a photographer, I carefully select subject, props, lighting, and composition to capture my image. I then make decisions about the type of paper or material to print on and the specific printing technique to use.

I use of techniques like tintypes, ambrotypes, and platinum printing to add an extra layer of uniqueness to the work, creating one-of-a-kind images that cannot be replicated. Additionally, I employ traditional printing methods such as hand-coating paper and using pigments to create multi-layered prints.

One thing I love about creating handmade prints is the freedom it affords me artistically. Rather than simply taking a digital photo, uploading it onto my computer and hitting print, I have control over every single aspect of the process.

Through this meticulous process, I create a physical work of art that can be experienced in a tangible way. They capture the colors, textures, and nuances of the physical world in a way that cannot be fully captured by a digital. The time and effort I put into the craft not only produces a beautiful photograph but also serves as a meditation and personal expression of creativity.

Come see many of my photographs during the Corrales Art Studio Tour (CAST) happening May 6th and 7th 2023 in Corrales, New Mexico.  I’ll be at Hanselmann Pottery.
